  • Patient with Depression, Anxiety, Burnout

After more than six years on medication for depression and anxiety, I had repeatedly tried to stop without success, as each attempt triggered severe withdrawal symptoms (headaches, mood swings, intense stress, crying episodes, isolation). My doctor even told me that I would probably need to take this medication for the rest of my life. This made me believe that I had no other choice.

During my first meeting with Stéphanie, she explained that these symptoms were probably related to withdrawal, not a permanent need for medication. Thanks to her approach and advice, we put together a gradual reduction plan. The symptoms were still present, but much more manageable thanks to her recommendations. We adjusted the plan throughout our sessions. Today, it has been several weeks since I stopped taking any medication, and not only do I no longer have any symptoms, but I also feel better than I did while on the medication.

I now realize that this medication was certainly not necessary for so long and that it caused abnormal symptoms, making me feel unwell. I am extremely grateful to Stéphanie for helping me break free from this dependency. I highly recommend her support to anyone facing similar challenges.

Preceptor | University of Toronto

“Stephanie is a phenomenal preceptor. She goes above and beyond for her students by providing them with appropriate resources regardless if the concern is directly related to the rotation work or not. She takes the time to answer our questions and ensures we understand the answers fully. She encourages students to say I don't know and it encourages students to learn and grow as people. She is constantly learning new things and improving her knowledge. She is truly a role model for students!

I really like Stephanie's passion for patient care. When she delivers information to us, she always has patient in mind and demonstrates professionalism all the time. This has set an example for us to become good pharmacists in the future. In addition, I really like Stepanie's way of teaching. When she found my knowledge gap, she would bring it up without telling me the answer but encourage me to search it up myself. I think the process of looking for the answer also helped me learn and solidified my knowledge. She would also share with us the experiences she learned from practice which may not be the same as what was written in a book and provided us with her rationale for doing so. These personal experiences have not only bettered my understanding of the therapeutic topics but also helped me to develop a closer relationship with my preceptor so I feel more comfortable asking questions.

She was very open to questions and very open to tailoring the learning experience to my preferences. Stephanie was always available for help and I really appreciated the clinical expertise she shared with us. She always provided constructive feedback and provided helpful guidance while allowing for self-directed learning. It was very comfortable working with her and I truly appreciate the experience I was able to have as her APPE student.

- the preceptor really wants us (students) to be able to know and apply knowledge in real life, which will be very helpful in the future - the preceptor also is very resourceful and provides various knowledge that I was unaware of during school.”

1) How I see you, as a person

You are one of the most admirable people I have ever gotten the chance to interact within my life. Your work ethic, drive, energy, and passion for learning amazes me - it's like the stuff you see in those ads for people trying to sell you personal development programs of "become your best self", except you truly are that person and in real life!!

You are one of the strongest leaders I've ever met - I believe there's a difference between tough and strong - tough is when you appear strong by putting a wall up against all that comes your way. Strong is when you embrace the challenges that come your way, understand & learn from them, and become a greater human being. Again, you are one of the strongest leaders I've ever met.

There is no way that this insane journey will not lead to something epic. Launching a business, learning the ins and outs of marketing/finance/sales/tech, forming true connections with some incredibly well-respected business people... I've heard the people we met with repeat over and over how you just have something special, and I really see it too. I have no doubt that there is so much more to come, and I am excited to find out what that will be.

2) How you've impacted my life

I can say without a doubt, that the last thing you have done, is let me down in any way. I know that when I look back on my early career, decades from now, you will remain one of the most important people I met along the way. You planted a seed in me that has, I feel, accelerated my personal growth at an exponential rate. The people I have met, the books I have read & the skills that I developed under your leadership continue to enrich my life. I am so, so grateful that you picked me out of that pile of Indeed applicants back in 2018 ;)

3) The end of the Voyage

I'm sure that saying goodbye to HV was a very hard decision to come to terms with. Perhaps stopping was even harder than simply continuing, because this is what you have come to know over the last 3 years. From my end (and I'm sure many others following this journey would agree with me), I hold nothing but respect and admiration for this journey. I think it was a success in so many ways - the skills it taught us, the people it touched, and the ways it shaped the future ahead.
